House plus

2018

House Plus is a half residential and half public design proposal located near Victoria Park station, Abbotsford. This project investigated how to combine housing with additional programs and integration between private and public space.

In addition to a single-family dwelling, the house also obtains an exhibition/performance on the ground floor and a public garden/performance space around the property. The house uses concrete as the primary material with triangular metal sheets partially covering the roof and staircases. This is both a tribute to the industrial past of that area as well reflects the nearby railroad feature. There are large glass panel walls installed for exhibition space as well as small square windows on the floor of cantilevered bathroom. This is aimed to encourage a interchangeable relationship between viewers and performers.
